How do I know what type of Investor I am?
In accordance with requirements, there are three (3) categories of Investors:

Retail Investor - Refers to an individual who is not an angel investor or a sophisticated investor.

Angel Investor - Refers to an individual— who is a tax resident in Malaysia; and whose total net personal assets exceed RM3 million or its equivalent in foreign currencies; or whose gross total annual income is not less than RM180,000 or its equivalent in foreign currencies in the preceding 12 months; or who, jointly with his or her spouse, has a gross total annual income exceeding RM250,000 or its equivalent in foreign currencies in the preceding 12 months.

Sophisticated Investor - Refers to any person who— falls within the categories of investors prescribed under the Capital Markets and Services Act 2007 (CMSA) and the Securities Commission Malaysia’s Guidelines on Categories of Sophisticated Investors, including licensed or regulated institutions, high-net-worth individuals and entities, and persons who qualify based on financial capacity, professional status, or recognised knowledge and experience. For individuals, this may include meeting prescribed thresholds such as a gross annual income of at least RM300,000, or a joint gross annual income with a spouse or child of at least RM400,000, as well as other asset-based, portfolio-based, qualification, or experience-based criteria under the guidelines.
