What are the different types of Investor Types in ECF?

ECF investment opportunities are open to all investors. There are three types of investor categories:

 

Retail Investor:

The maximum investment amount for retail investors is RM5,000 per company with a total amount of not more than RM50,000 within 12 months
  • Refers to an individual who is not an angel investor or a sophisticated investor.

 

Angel Investor:

The maximum investment amount for angel investors is RM500,000 within 12 months. An angel investor is an individual who:

  • Is a tax resident in Malaysia; and
  • Has total net personal assets exceeding RM3,000,000 or its equivalent in foreign currencies; or
  • Has a gross total annual income of not less than RM180,000 or its equivalent in foreign currencies in the preceding 12 months; or
  • Jointly with their spouse, has a gross total annual income exceeding RM250,000 or its equivalent in foreign currencies in the preceding 12 months
Sophisticated Investor:

No restrictions on investment amount and those who meet either of the following criteria:

  • They fall within any of the investor categories specified in Part 1, Schedule 6 and 7 of the Capital Markets and Services Act (CMSA); or
  • They acquire any capital market product or Islamic capital market product on a recognised market, where the transaction value is equal to or exceeds RM250,000 or its equivalent in foreign currencies, regardless of whether a payment is made in cash or otherwise.
